It's been a couple of crazy weeks with coding and testing of our new portfolio section that will make it much easier for me to add new images and take out older ones. That means things should be a little more current around here. Sorry for that in the last little while. ;) It was a great day for a ball game! Even though JL lost the game, everyone had a great time and the players all showed a lot of class on the field. Go Judges!!! What a day! over 20mm of rain the day of the game and the Avon View field was a mudbath! JL lost the game, but everyone worked hard and ended up covered in mud. :) Go Judges!!! It was a great day for a ball game! Even though JL lost the game, everyone had a great time and the players all showed a lot of class on the field. Go Judges!!! JL Judges started the 2011 season for the first time as a Tier 1 team. Still a new team and after losing almost half the team to graduation last June, it will be a challenging season, without doubt. Many of the new grade 12's have stepped it up and the Judges showed a lot of class during their first game, including a letter from the CEC math teacher commending the team on their behavious and manner which was sent to the JL principal and read to all the students. Although things started a little dark and damp, the day turned into an awesome Maritime summer day and hundred of classic hot rods, trucks, vans and antiques turned out at Scotia Speedworld for one of the coolest car shows I've seen in some time. Rich Evans of Speed Channel's Car Warriors and Chop, Cut, Rebuild landed in Halifax at about noon on Thursday, July 28th for a 5 day complete rebuild of a 1989 Ford Mustand owned by Rob Well (perhaps better known as Ricky of the Trailer Park Boys) in memory of Rob's brother. This is the first in a multi part series of galleries documenting the progress of the build. I was filling in for my buddy Matt Jacques this past weekend at Scotia Speedworld shooting the weekly Friday Night racing featuring the Bandaleros, Sportsman, Legends, Lightning and Thunder classes. I lead a field trip for Photo Guild of NS and Halifax Photo Society members this past weekend to help show how to photograph high speed sports action and what better way than to start with the fasted sports action around? LOL! I've been following many of the Halifax Seahawks games and will continue to throughout the season. I'm running a little behind, but have added galleries from the first two games of the season under a new gallery listing. In partnership with Aperture Studios in downtown Halifax, we are very pleased to bring you a 4 part (12 hours total) in-depth training seminar on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3. ![]() Nearly a week of shooting and over 9000 photos but what a week! And the West field, as it turns out is also very dark... So by half time photography was done. It was so dark on the field itself that the camera refused to focus and by that time my fingers had pretty much stopped responding too. :( In partnership with Viewpoint Gallery in downtown Halifax, we are very pleased to bring you a 3 part (9 hours total) in-depth training seminar on Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3. Finally caught up and just in time for the Halifax West game on Monday!!! This was JL's third win of the season - a great winning streak! This was JL's second win of the season, and was played at the Burnside Turf field. It was a cold and damp season opener game on the Rockingstone field but the player's spirits were high and although they suffered several injuries, JL was victorious in their first game of 2010! Another one for the record books. The 2010 season is finished and we all now get to take some time to reflect on the highs and lows of this year. And there were surely both. For those who don't know, top Amateur rider #9 - Charlie Legere was seriously injured during a practice crash a week before the final round. Our thoughts and best wishes are with Charlie and his family. If you can, please join some of the racers and extended family at Kokomos on Saturday October 16th starting at 2pm for a fundraiser and auction to help the Legere family. Visit this facebook group for more information. I hope to see you there! And all caught up! Although I was a little pre-occupied with calendar sales at the track this weekend, I still managed to catch a little over 400 images from both days. Enjoy!
A little late - again! - but finally on-line. Over 800 images from Saturday and Sunday as I camped at the track for the first time! It was a lot of fun spending the whole weekend with everyone and even my wife said she met more of you in this one weekend that all the previous visits to the track with me over the years combined. Thanks for making us feel so welcomed!
Just in time for the Parts Canada Superbike Season Finale race at Atlantic Motorsport Park August 6th through 8th!
A little late, but finally on-line. Nearly 550 images from Sunday only as I had a lot of catching up to do around my home on Saturday... ;)
It was a hot day at the track and I don't mean the weather! There was plenty of action on the track and a great spectacle for those in attendance.
What a fabulous weekend at the track! The weather was incredible and everyone had a great time. There were a few incidents, but fortunately no one was seriously injured although I'm sure pride always feels worse than anything else when it's broken. ;)
Just added!

Although the weekend started out wet and oily :), there was great action on the track with some of the closest racing I've been witness to in a while. On Sunday I lead a group of nearly 28 photographers from the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia and the Halifax Photography Society in an educational event geared to both educate photographers how to shoot action sports as well as to foster an expanded interest in ARL/AMP and motorcycle racing in the Maritimes in general! I believe it worked as everyone was amazed with the racing, the track and couldn't say enough great things about the riders, crews, marshalls and track staff. I hope they tell their friend and bring even more people to the track for Round 2!
Thanks to Dave G. for letting me know that my contact form link had stopped working! Sorry if you had tried using it and had issues. Unfortunately there was a change made on my host provider's server that I was not made aware of and it has been corrected. Thanks to Viewpoint Gallery for hosting this brand new workshop! This workshop covers 7 hours of instruction plus homework - Sorry! - and will help photographers and artists build self confidence and teach how to ask the right questions and most importantly, how to "listen" to the answers. There will be breakout groups and lots of interactive discussions. For more information and to register, visit the Seminars Page. Looks like a few glitches showed up in the gallery during the conversion to the new layout. Sorry for any trouble you may have encountered. All the links should now be updated and working. If you find anything otherwise, please let us know. Second time out and picked up a lot! I hope to make it to a few more games before the season is finished and will be posting more here in the galleries. At least no one broke any bones this time... Right Joanne! ;) On to the gallery... Thanks to Joanne for inviting me to the game last week! It was the first time I've tried to shoot basketball and I certainly learned a lot! I expect to be back at a few more games before the season is finished and will be posting more here in the galleries. If you have a team you would like me to visit, drop me a line and I'll see if I can fit it in my schedule. On to the gallery... 2009 was a fantastic year featuring lots of highlights and new things for McCarthy Photographic. 2010 is shaping up to be even better! We have confirmed a stronger presence this coming season for the motorcycle racers with ARL (Atlantic Roadracing League) and expect calendar sales to exceed the already fantastic introduction at Christmas time. We have also committed to shooting at Scotia Speedworld with our friend and colleague Matt Jacques, plus a schedule of weddings, portrait and glamour photography, the coming months should be a lot of fun! To start off, we are launching our new web site today and hope you will find it faster and easier to navigate, especially in the galleries. As new galleries are added this year, you should see dramatic improvements! In the meantime, the old galleries have been moved over and will be migrated to the new format over the coming days. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to use the comment form to let us know what you think. We'd absolutely love to hear from you and can only make the site better with your feedback! All the best for the coming year! You can now purchase the new limited edition 2010 11x17" glossy wall calendar featuring some of the most popular bikes from the Pro and Amateur Superbike, 600 and Sportsman classes from this past season. Each month features a unique model and no staples like the earlier prototype you may have seen at the trach. Click here for more information and to order yours - just in time for the holidays! Thanks once again to ARL for inviting me to photograph the annual awards banquet! We laughed until we cried and everyone was merry! Enjoy... :) Click here to view and order prints. Don't forget that we offer custom mounting and specialty graphics orders too! :) Click here to view and order prints from the Weekly Series or here to view and order prints from the Parts for Trucks 200 Finale I'm new at the whole football thing this year but since my son is now playing on the Judges, I thought I'd better develop an interest and quickly! Well, I have to admit, I was completely lots for pretty much the first half and only really started to catch on about the 4th quarter. As I develop a better understanding of the game, I expect to be able to follow along with the action a lot better... I still managed to capture a lot of the action, I just didn;t know what was going on! :) Click here to view and order prints. At one point on Saturday, they announced that the track surface temperature was 180 Deg. F. And the racing action was even HOTTER! Click here to view and order prints. I've been helping out a friend cover the '09 season at Scotia Speedworld and have added my image galleries. There are a couple of upcoming races that will be added shortly after including Riverside Speedway near Antigonish (08/22) and the season finales at Scotia Speedworld the weekend of September 11-12. Registered users will receive a bonus desktop wallpaper calendar via e-mail at the beginning of each month for the next 12 months by clicking here Sunday managed to be another wet day at the track, but I got to shoot from some new places and found some new perspectives that I hope you enjoy! The galleries are now available on-line and you can view them by clicking here Well the weather was a challenge this past weekend, but with a few soggy feet I managed to muddle through... The galleries are now available on-line - at least until the rain became horizontal in turn 3 and I had to pack it in! You can view them by clicking here Thanks for having me all this past year everyone. I truly enjoy hanging out at the track chatting with and getting to know you all. I have even bigger plans for 2009 and expect to be available each round with on-site printing and custom promotional items for everyone. Make sure you stop me and say "Hi!"... With some of the great photo opportunities last year - including the Pirelli girls during the national rounds - I'm planning on putting together a calendar this year featuring the racers of ARL and some very attractive models I've met and have had the pleasure of working with over the off season. If you're interested in participating and being featured in the calendar, please contact me. |
