McCarthy Photographic.com is the home and creative outlet for the photography of Mike McCarthy.
Over the last 25+ years, Mike has developed a unique sense of composition and color and has a knack for capturing some of the most memorable candid moments. Over the past few years, Mike has been actively involved in the Halifax Photography Society and the Photo Guild of Nova Scotia expanding his range and experience.
For nearly 20 years, Mike has been an industrial sales rep traveling all over Atlantic Canada. Mike usually carries his camera with him and often stops along the road to capture some spot that catches his eye. As you will see in our galleries, there are several beautiful images of what makes Nova Scotia such a wonderful place.
For the past 6 years, Mike has been avidly been shooting local motorcycle racing and has spent quite a bit of time developing the skill required to photograph these high speed moving targets. Introduced by a friend and colleague, Mike has been frequenting Atlantic Motorsports Park near Shubenacadie, and has captured some incredible images of these powerful machines at dangerous speeds. More recently, Mike has been working as one of the official photographers for the Carquest Pro Stock and Weekly Series stock car series at Scotia Speedworld and Riverside Speedway.
During his involvement with the Photographic Guild of Nova Scotia, Mike has earned many awards for his work including "New Photographer of the Year", "Portrait Photographer of The Year", "Best Photographic Print of the Year", "Photojournalism Photographer of the Year", "Photojournalism Photo of The Year" and "Creative Image of The Year" to name but a few. In 2011, Mike was also awarded "1st Place Photojournalism Image" from the Photographic Society of America and numerous placing ribbons and honourable mentions in PSA's international pictorial, creative and photojournalism competitions. Mike has served as PSA representative and most recently as Newsletter Editor for the Bluenose Focus. In addition to his work with PGNS, Mike has previously filled the role of President of the Halifax Photography Society and is presently the communications chair for HPS.
Mike is also a member of the Model Insider - "The List", which includes photographers who volunteer time to help aspiring models create a profesional portfolio, having won several "Photo of The Day" competitions in both the glamour and fine art nude categories. To date, Mike has several magazine credits including a recent 6 page photo shoot in the American urban male magazine, Platinum Plus and the international Maxim Magazine Online in their 2009 "Holiday Hotties" galleries.
Mike's work has been featured in numerous newspapers and catalogs as well as several Parts Canada superbike series magazines. Mike has provided all the headshots and promotional car shots for the 2010 Carquest Pro Series promotional material and programs and was one of the official media photographers for the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
