The Maritime Pro Stock Tour finally got to hit the track again after the rained out event at Petty Raceway two weeks ago this past weekend near Antigonish at Riverside International Speedway.
Although it looked like it might not happen for a little while.
Practice was fast and the cars in both the Sportsman and Pro Stock classes were fast on the track. It’s been two years since I’ve been at this track and I had forgotten exactly how fast the 3.10 mile high bank oval really was. Racing here is impressive to say the least and the track is very fan friendly.
Just as the drivers were starting to gather for the 4pm driver’s meeting, the skies opened up and we had a very intense thunderstorm that even included a spattering og hail – just for good measure. After the initial thunderstorm appeared to have knocked out the cellular data system we had difficulty trying to get to Environment Canada’s weather radar but after a nearly 2 hour rain delay, the track organizers got their jet dryer on track and the racing got underway just a little more than an hour after the scheduled green flag time. Impressive to say the least and a fantastic job by the track workers.
I’ve been travelling all week, so I need to apologize to the drivers, families and fans that the gallery has been so delayed this week. I have uploaded approximately 1100 photos from last week. After having a great time and enjoying the racing I just couldn’t cut them down any further. I hope you enjoy them.
In the end, it was an awesome finish. Donald Chisholm lead a lit of laps and John put on a hard charge at the end, and even lead a few laps, but Donald Chisholm lead the most important lap and won the race.
