Abandoned Angel – NUVU Magazine # 60

Another one of my favorite subjects to photograph are old abandoned spaces. I don’t get to shoot them very often but it’s amazing when the opportunity pops up. Especially when a team assembles that is as awesome as this one was…

This particular set was shot waaaaay back in 2014. Featuring one of the best fine art models of the time in the region, Kyla. I also had a couple of photographer friends come along to assist and hold a couple of speedlights.

About 15 minutes or so from my home is an historic site called York Redoubt, which is one of the early fortresses in Nova Scotia. Established in 1793, York Redoubt was a key installation near the entrance to Halifax Harbour to protect what was, at the time, one of the busiest harbours in the New World and was in operation right through World War II. Today, it is a national historic site and is open to the public to tour.

A few minutes down the road from the main entrance is a small trail in the woods that leads to an abandoned area outside the main fortress that has fallen into disrepair and is mostly left abandoned except for a few local graffiti artists and wandering artists like my little crew. 😉

Still one of my favorite visits to an abandoned space, Kyla helped make this session pretty amazing and it’s never a bad day when you get to hang out with a few friends and create some beautiful images.

As I’ve mentioned before, during the early days of the COVID shutdown, most of us photographers had a tough time adjusting to not being able to work. So myself, like so many others, looked back into some of our older work to see if there were missed opportunities of hidden gems that we may have missed the first time around. After sitting on these for several years they were revisited and revitalized with a fresh look and some fresh editing techniques, so I thought it only appropriate to share them with one of my favorite high end boudoir and art nude magazines.
